polymer clay and resin jewellery

Hello! I'm Kate, the proud owner of Escape Artist.
I'm a maker, mum, skilled procrastinator and daydream enthusiast. I also love earrings.
I first began working with polymer clay in 2019 and was immediately hooked. It is such a versatile medium and I absolutely love losing track of time creating pieces that I hope reflect the joy that goes into making them.

FAQs
WHAT IS POLYMER CLAY?
Polymer Clay is a non-toxic modelling compound with a PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and liquid plastizer base.
It is a lightweight material that works beautifully on its own or with with other mediums such as acrylic paint, alcohol ink, foil, metals and resin to create a range of finishes and effects.
So if you love minimalist / elaborate, neutral / vibrant, sleek / intricate designs then polymer clay is for you!
HOW SHOULD I CLEAN AND STORE MY EARRINGS?
To best look after your new pieces, please store them in a dry, cool place out of direct sunlight (as long-term UV exposure can discolour resin and clay). As with most jewellery, it best to avoid showering, swimming and applying perfumes or moisturisers whilst wearing them.
Any marks or make-up residue are best removed with a damp cloth or baby wipe, however a very small amount of isopropyl alcohol (and I do mean a very small amount!) on a cotton pad to gently wipe will assist with any stubborn spots. For any pieces with a glazed or resin coating, please do not use anything but water or a baby wipe as chemicals will dull the finish.
Please do not use any acetone-based products as these will melt your polymer clay.
Pieces that have metal components may unfortunately tarnish over time, however this can be remedied with a jewellery polishing cloth. Tomato sauce is also a very effective way to clean metals (I know, right?!) - just be careful not to get it on your clay or it may stain.
ARE YOUR EARRINGS HYPOALLERGENIC?
I use high-grade 304 and 316 surgical stainless steel earring posts and backings (unless specifically stated in the product description), some of which are plated in 18K gold. They contain chromium and nickel and are more resistant to tarnishing than some other metals. Whilst stainless steel is considered a hypoallergenic material, please note that some earlobes may still experience sensitivity if worn for long periods of time.
If you see a pair of earrings you like but are concerned about wearing stainless steel, please get in touch and I can chat to you about titanium and niobium options.
